Members of the Club have taken part in a variety of Yuletide races. The first was the third cross country league at Pittville Park Cheltenham. The varied course took the lady runners twice over a stream. New member Vicky Bentley had a cracking run to finish well up the field in 26 minutes. Liz Spiers ran 28.54 and Veteran 55 Deborah Southgate completed the team in 29.55.
Nine Angels adorned in fancy dress enjoyed their trip to Weston for its annual Christmas Cracker 10km. Clare Waters, veteran 40, despite not running for three months through injury, still finished first Angel in 54.51. She was followed closely by Deborah Wallace, veteran 45, in 55.53 then Stephanie Fox veteran 40 in 57.29. Carol Horsfield veteran 50, also in her first race for a while, was the last Angel to finish under one hour in 59.24. Chris Ellis, Dawn Hyde and Valerie Meechan all veteran 60 runners ran together and finished in 1.02. With Terry Flemons and Helen Lewis completing the Angels contingent, finishing in 1.04.
Dawn Hyde and Stephanie Fox ran again the following weekend in a new race organised by Cotswold Allrunners. The 4.3 mile multi-terrain course was challenging but fun and both finished in 55 minutes. Deborah Southgate and Helen Bown both veteran 55s ran in the 5 mile Christmas Tree race in the forest. With the final half mile a long up hill climb they were both pleased to finish, especially Bown who hasn’t raced for 18 months, and they both enjoyed the very muddy and icy conditions.

New club member Vicky Bentley completed her first half marathon at Bristol in an excellent one hour and 54 minutes.
On the same weekend Deborah Southgate, Joanne Carter and Clare Waters enjoyed running the rare race distance of The Apperley quarter Marathon, a multi-terrain event. They finished in 53.54, 55 and 56 minutes and highly placed in the woman’s race.
The four ‘Angels’ who took part in the Great North run last week were moved by the display of The Red Arrows before the start of the race and enjoyed the atmosphere of the large event. Deborah Wallace completed the course in 2.01.39 with Dawn Hyde next in 2.19.12. Julie Hapeshi was close behind in 2.20.40 and lastly Lily Hamer in 2.23.44.
Nine Angels ran The Cirencester Park 10km on Sunday but it was Teresa Bennett who excelled with a new 10 kilometre personal best by more than 6 minutes. Teresa is currently in training for The New York Marathon and the extra miles in training are paying off. First runner home for the club was Nicola Wong in 50.08, a good time since she is still recovering from her recent marathon run. Next was Bennett in 50.45 with Liz Spiers who encouraged her team mate during the second part of the race, just a second behind in 50.46. Next to finish were veteran 55s Deborah Southgate in 51.28 and Jackie Hobday in 52.00, who were able to gain valuable points in their age category for the road race series. Deborah Wallace and Dawn Hyde both ran well after their runs in the half marathon last week.
Finally Eileen Dodwell, veteran 65 and Chris Ellis veteran 60 had a battle all round the course, with Dodwell beating her team mate to the line in a final sprint, with times just outside 1 hour.

It was a good turnout for the annual 10km, organised by ‘The Angels Running Club’, despite a half marathon in Cheltenham on the same day, and several runners were competing hoping to gain valuable points in the Gloucestershire Road Race Series. After the earlier rain cleared away conditions were unexpectedly warm with a headwind that slowed runners in the last 5km of the race.
Jon Parker from CLC Striders was the overall winner of the race in 33.12, with second placed Mike Smith, also first veteran 40, from Bourton Road Runners more than a minute behind in 34.54. Third placed runner and second male veteran 40 was Dave Rantell from Cheltenham and County Harriers in 36.30. Lee Christmas, a regular runner of the race, finished in fourth place and was also first male veteran 50 in 36.55.
Other prize winners in the veteran men categories were; first V45 Jeremy Mower from Gloucester Athletic Club and fifth in the race with 37.12, first V55 was Andy Norman from Severn Athletic Club in 39.09 and first V60 was Arthur Daley from Gloucester Athletic club. Martin Ford from Cheltenham and County Harriers ran an excellent MV65 time of 39.23, with his team mate Ken Buckle with an excellent time of 44.55 in the MV70 category.
